This is my story of how I fell in love with a pit bulls.

Let me start that when I think of breed bans on dogs it takes me back to learning golden rules as a child.  Simple things like Don't judge a book by its cover and all races, sexes, wealthy, poor, ugly, pretty, smart or dumb should all be treated equal.  As I have gotten older I realize that society doesn't always work that way!

The first Pit Bull to steal my heart.......Princess Tautiana
When I met Michael several years ago he had a six month old white pit bull by the name of Tautiana. The first time she stayed the night at my house I was honestly..... TERRIFIED.  I tossed and turned in my sleep and had dreams that she was ripping my arms and legs off.   I would wake up startled and there she would lay just looking at me. It took me not even a week to fall head of heals in love with her.  She loved to snuggle and would talk back when she got in scolded.  She was compassionate, smart, and happy.

As years went on I realized that her breed of dog was not liked by many. I would be on walks with her and people with children would cross the road to avoid us. This bothered my at first but I guess I just became calloused to the situation. I would say things like she is a really nice dog and I would get no response just the view of there backs scurrying away. When we looked for homes to rent several people wouldn't even take our application because we had pit bulls because they are dangerous dogs.  Tautiana loved to weight pull competitively,   which people also found crewel.  What they didn't see was how happy she got when her harness came out.  She would jump and scream with excitement if she knew she was going to get to work. When did it become bad for a dog to have a job? When did it become ideal for dogs to lay on the couch and do nothing?  When she would be working out people would make remarks but when educated and compared to the dogs that train for the Iditarod in the snow and then it was ok.  Many people believe that if a pit bull is doing anything active it is being trained to fight.  Tautianas hard work and big heart paid off as she brought home many trophies.  She is one in million.

At this point I was in the pit bull "show world" now which is its own universe, to say the least.   Just like anywhere else you have good and evil. I not only fell in love with this breed of dog, but I learned from so many different kinds of people that loved this breed of dog.  Knowledge is power. I met good people through pit bulls that will be my friends for life.

I now live with in city limits with my three American Pitbull Terriers none of them being Tautiana.  She went with her father after our breakup. She loved him!  When I see her about once a year my heart still fills with joy and I tell her thank you for changing my ignorance to love.

Legend is my oldest he is blue brindle that thinks he is as big as a truck. He likes to protect me and he can run like the wind blows.  He is a very confident dog and sits with his chest puffed out with confidence all the time.  His best friend is a cat that he bathes and looks out for.  They are quite a team.   A pet psychic told me he was a Japanese snipper in his past life and came back this time around to learn how to love.  He defiantly has that figured out. hahaha

Legend AKA BUBBA
Legend and Saphira!  Very happy to see the sun!
Junior is my second oldest.  He smiles all the time and defiantly has the middle child syndrome. I trust him with anything and anyone because all he wants is hugs and loves.  He is my lover dog! He is a white dog with bridle spots, and whenever he is nervous or anxious the skin around his eyes and mouth turn bright pink. He does not like to be left alone EVER. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him!

Saphira is my little girl. (yes she is named after a beautiful dragon). She tells the boys what to do in our house.  She is built like a cinder block, short, think and gray.  (in the dog world its actually called blue). She likes attention from who ever will give it to her and had the funniest sense of humor.  She really is funny!  The noises she makes sound like a pig, and if you make them back at her she thinks its a game.

I love these dogs and I want to make a difference in how they are perceived. My family had there worries at first, but now many of them have a pit bull of there own that they love and adore.

I am telling this story for a reason.  I was was afraid of these dogs like most people due to ignorance, lack of knowledge, hearsay, and the media.  If you, just for a few minutes take the time to learn about this breed of dog you may have a change of heart.

In Washington State there are several pit bills that work along side Law enforcement officers, (http://www.lawdogsusa.org/home.html) in WWI the pit bull was on posters to represent our country, Helen Keller owned a pit bull and don't you remember Petty from little rascals? In August,  here in Clark County Washington the city council will be holding a meeting to speak about banning pit bulls with in the city limits.  Those of you who know me, know that this is a very serious problem in my life.   My three children are American Pit Bull Terriers and they are my life.  There are walks planned (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=222434337775507) and rally's (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=207823625925967) planned, but what I hope to be able to do with my blog is give people the knowledge that is needed to make a EDUCATED vote.
